  • Overview

    The Lead Instructional Designer is responsible for taking the lead in supporting GM Financial's learning needs across the IT organization. This individual will be able to determine the best instructional strategies for training design, development, and delivery and carry out those strategies. This person will take the lead in the analysis, design and content development of training solutions.

    Responsibilities

    JOB DUTIES

    • Lead in the design and content development of learning projects
    • Design, develop, and deploy technology-based training that is delivered online, facilitator-led, or any combination of the two
    • Attend project meetings and work with subject matter experts in the business units to define the training approach
    • Stay current on all instructional design theory and strategies and spearhead implementation of these as appropriate
    • Use and stay current on all appropriate tools for developing technology-based training courseware
    • Attend continuing education courses as directed by the supervisor to stay current on training technologies and methods
    • Conduct periodic instructional design reviews of learning deliverables both during development and after delivery
    • Review department work performance and identify growth and development opportunities
    • Leads an ID staff, team member development, including performance evaluations, hiring, terminations, and salary recommendations
    • Formulates policies, programs, and schedules based on knowledge of identified training needs and company services
    • Coordinates the development, approval, staffing, and implementation of training programs

    Qualifications

    Knowledge

    • Advanced knowledge of business processes for supported business groups
    • Knowledge of security methodologies, policies, standards and best practices
    • Knowledgeable of best practices in information technology governance and regulatory landscape for financial institutions
    • Knowledge of GM Financials core business functions, policies and procedures
    • Working knowledge of the consumer loan business
    • Working knowledge of all system applications
    • Significant experience in a large and complex business environment
    • Experience with training material development support tools such as; Adobe Captivate, Articulate, Adobe Connect, Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Learning Suite and basic web programming
    • ITIL Foundations Certified
    • Some Project Management experience preferred
    • Experience working with/administrating learning management systems (LMS)
    • Experience with web-based deliverables/eLearning
    • In-depth knowledge of security frameworks (eg, ISO 27000, NIST, FFIEC, etc)
    • Advanced knowledge of information technology systems, infrastructure and operations
    • Advanced working knowledge of information systems and operations systems for supported business groups

    Skills

    • Advanced ability to create and work RFC and SR tickets with Oracle On Demand, Oracle Managed Cloud Services and Oracle Support
    • High proficiency in Instructional Design theories is required
    • Experience with on-demand, just-in-time delivery is required
    • Experience with development methodologies like ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) and Instructional Systems Design is desirable
    • An ability to accommodate different learning styles and account for learner modality preferences in design is required
    • Proficiency in learning development software
    • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, Macromedia Authorware, and Macromedia Dreamweaver, is a plus
    • Ability to meet expected delivery dates and the tasks necessary to achieve objectives
    • Strong ability to analyze data using Excel for reporting and data mining purposes
    • Ability to interact with staff at all levels
    • Excellent writing and speaking skills
    • Strong people skills
    • Must be a self-starter and able to manage the investigations function with minimal supervision
    • Advance experience with data visualization concepts and tools
    • Advanced computer skills and conversance in information technology issues
    • Ability to effectively lead, organize, and supervise
    • Ability to work directly with senior level management

    Education

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field preferred

    Experience

    • 5-7 years of training experience with a focus on training and adult learning preferred
    • 2-4 years of IT experience preferred
    • 2-4 years of technical training experience preferred
