  • Overview

    The Global API Gateway Engineer will act as a subject matter expert for integration services, specifically for CA API Gateway (formerly Layer 7). They will design, develop and help promote standards, guidance and best practices for API Lifecycle Management platform and policies. They will also provide advanced architectural input and multi-level support and administration of all CA API Gateway environments. Working with application and project teams, will seek to understand their business requirements and provide operational and project support. They will present and educate technical communities within wider IT organization, to ensure developers, solutions architects and other teams are aware of best practice and capabilities. In alignment with organizational DevOps automation activities, they will enable automation techniques for day-to-day system development and maintenance, deploying simple solutions quick and develop frameworks for templates and rapid setup. Finally, they will assist design and implementation teams to ensure quality, security and adherence to standards and best practices



    • Act as subject matter expert or “full stack” engineer on infrastructure technologies within wider enterprise as it relates to API integrations.
    • Design solutions, implementation, customization, and deployment of API Management Integration solutions.
    • Conduct knowledge transfer as needed to facilitate development approach, implementation process, platform setup, etc.
    • Communicate to project manager and technical leads all aspects of the implementation of the technical approach.
    • Problem isolation and resolution, with expectation that continuous improvement and enhancements are implemented.
    • Perform system planning, installation and upgrades across all gateway platforms and environments.
    • Work with external 3rd parties to integrate their web services with the gateway.
    • Assist software architecture to define and evangelize API frameworks, best practices for API design and implementation for enterprises.
    • Integrate API Gateway configurations and releases as much as possible with existing SDLC pipeline automation tooling.
    • Taking the lead on operational escalations, being the point of contact for infrastructure operations. Lead and / or facilitate critical incident escalation activities where required.
    • Manage intake queue and pipeline work, alongside automations team leads and management, to assign resources and provide estimates.
    • Create and update platform KPIs to be consumed by stakeholders.
    • After hours support and participation in an on-call rotation as needed.



    • Knowledge and understanding of industry trends and new technologies and ability to apply this to day-to-day work activities
    • Knowledge of enterprise platforms and operating systems as well as knowledge of key business functions and processes
    • Demonstrated experience with web service security including digital certificates (client and server), mutual-authentication, SSL, WS

    • Expertise in XML, XSL, WSDL, SOAP, JSON, HTML, JavaScript.  Also, solid understanding of SOA, both traditional and RESTful services.

    • Strong knowledge on securing the web APIs data-integrity/confidentiality, basic auth and OAuth 2.0

    • Working experience and knowledge of CA API Gateway product (Layer7), or other similar tools / capabilities

    • Working experience and knowledge of CA API Gateway product (Layer7), or other similar tools / capabilities

    • Experience with Linux OS and Databases (MSSQL and MySQL)

    • Network understanding and troubleshooting (TCP/IP, DNS, etc.)

    • Knowledge of caching and load-balancing

    • Working knowledge of LDAP and Microsoft Active Directory)

    • Working knowledge of web/app server technologies (Apache, Tomcat, etc.)

    • Ability to apply structured analysis methods to various types of data to establish trends, determine variability and business impact
    • Communicates quickly, clearly, concisely, appropriately, and intelligently

    • Experience with alternate management methods using SSH, serial connections, and the command-line interface TMSH
    • Ability to effectively negotiate with vendors on upgrades and acquisitions

    • Strong level IT security processes and controls knowledge as well as IT infrastructure and networking technical knowledge
    • Ability to approach problems with an open-mind and create new and innovative ideas and methods
    • Strong technical writing
    • Experience in documentation tools such as Visio and Microsoft Office products
    • Information security standards/frameworks (i.e., NIST Cybersecurity Framework, ISO 27001) skills
    • Experience with Network and VLAN segmentation
    • Good analytical skills

    • Excellent communication skills in English, verbally and in writing to all levels of the organization mandatory.


    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, IT or equivalent preferred


    • 3-5 years with application support and maintenance preferred
    • 5-7 years experience in a global enterprise environment preferred
    • Extensive experience working with technical teams and management

    • Working experience of automated SDLC, continuous delivery frameworks, and ITIL principles, and best practices

    Work Condition

    • Normal office environment; may be stressful at times. There may be a requirement to occasionally work a flexible schedule with the possibility of working long hours.
