  • Overview

    BASIC FUNCTION:

    Under minimal supervision, the Communication Specialist II supports, implements and coordinates internal and external communication initiatives, with the goal of increasing the understanding and support of GM Financial's business strategies, goals and key initiatives among the company's various stakeholder groups.

    Responsibilities

    JOB DUTIES:

    • Act as liaison to various GM Financial departments to provide communication support and to identify/create opportunities to promote a favorable perception of the company to internal and external audiences.
    • Write articles for, edit and maintain communications vehicles as assigned.
    • Provide advanced support to the public relations staff as assigned by writing news releases, fact sheets, media advisories and pitch letters; creating special events; and implementing public relations programs.
    • Assist with other communications and marketing initiatives as needed.
    • Ensure strategic information and direction obtained from Communications Manager, VP Investor Relations and other senior managers are incorporated into internal and external communications initiatives.
    • Continually track, measure, evaluate and report achievement of internal and external communications goals with a focus on recommending and incorporating improvements as appropriate.
    • Work closely with all Communication department officers and managers to learn and support all communication functions.

     

    OTHER IMPORTANT DUTIES:

    Provide communications expertise to other GM Financial groups as appropriate.

    Reports to: Communication Manager

    Qualifications

    Knowledge

    • Advanced knowledge of organizational communication and public relations theories and practices.
    • Working knowledge of electronic and print communication processes.

    Skills

    • Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
    • Must have strong relationship-building skills.
    • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple assignments.
    • Strong PC skills, including Microsoft Office experience.
    • Ability to take publication-quality photos with digital camera.
    • Must be able to make independent decisions and demonstrate leadership ability.
    • Must be a self-starter and team player.

    Experience

    • 3-6 years agency, newspaper or corporate communications experience, including internships.
    • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent professional experience, in journalism, mass communications, public relations or related discipline required.

     

    WORK CONDITION:

    Normal office environment. Limited travel.
