  • Overview

    The Global Network Engineer I, under the general direction of the Manager, will assist in the day-to-day tasks critical to the team's success.  This individual will focus primarily on day to day support to assist with the planning, design and implementation of communications networks.  Timely completing company training, this individual will become thoroughly familiar with all compliance, regulatory and security requirements adhering to all corporate policies and standards. This person is responsible for providing assistance and technical support for moderately complex network analysis and design activities. The Global Network Engineer I assists in the review/assessment of user needs and may conduct feasibility studies for projects. Additionally, the engineers will focus on sustainability and improvement of processes, along with task automation to improve process efficiency.

    Responsibilities

    JOB DUTIES

    • Provide first tier technical support to GM Financial and its other information technology teams to resolve network issues and to support the implementation of new network solutions.
    • Execute operational support of corporate, branch, and service center operations.
    • Triage incident tickets as they arise. Resolve or escalate appropriately.
    • Create and update network documentation based on industry best practices.
    • Follow established change procedures to implement network maintenance, upgrades and changes.
    • Adhere to all company authored policy, procedure and standards documents.
    • Ensure that all systems are running at optimal capacity.
    • Evaluate and install system patches and system updates as directed.
    • Participate in company provided training and perform independent training as appropriate.
    • Design, maintain, configure, support and implement moderately complex network communications infrastructure, routers, switching infrastructure, and manage reporting and documentation.

    Qualifications

    Knowledge

    • Working knowledge of management processes such as personnel administration, planning and budgeting
    • Working knowledge of Intel platforms, iSeries and pSeries servers

    • Understanding of routing and switching protocols as they relate to load balancing
    • Understanding of application layer protocols including HTTP, SSH, SSL, and DNS

    • Knowledge and stay abreast on the latest security and privacy legislation, regulations, advisories, alerts and vulnerabilities
