The Payroll Specialist II performs a wide variety of record keeping and payroll processing activities, including computing wage and overtime payments, calculating and recording payroll deductions, processing requests for manual checks, and processing terminations. This employee has contact with all Company departments, as well as, payroll processing vendor.



  • Enter new hires, payroll changes, and tax deductions into computerized payroll system.
  • Assure all garnishment of wages and tax levies are processed in accordance with state and federal laws.
  • Review and edit timesheets for accuracy and compliance to company policy.
  • Review and verify that batches keyed in ADP before and after processed to make sure they are correct.
  • Calculate and prepare manual checks, as needed.
  • Compile statistical data and prepares reports for government agencies.
  • Compile data for and prepare various payroll reports for the Accounting Department.
  • Correspond with payroll processing vendor to keep them informed of any new, or changes to, tax codes, tax ID numbers, general ledger data, department number, etc.
  • Check all new-hire paperwork on each employee to verify management has sent all needed information and follow-up as needed with management regarding missing paperwork.
  • Maintain a professional level of customer service, with both internal and external associates.
  • Process employment verifications in a timely manner
  • Calculate and input any out of cycle pay data from time cards and into computerized payroll system.
  • Maintain and review employee accruals in Kronos.
  • Process terminations and calculate final checks.


  • Perform other related duties, to include the balancing and checking of payroll prior to transmission.
  • Assist the payroll supervisor in team motivation.
  • Work with the supervisor to resolve issues related to payroll.
  • Assist in training newly hire employee.

  • Working knowledge of payroll administration.
  • Strong knowledge of computerized Human Resources and Payroll reporting systems.
  • Working knowledge of word processing software. 


  • Good verbal communication skills and good customer service skills, word processing, ten-key and typing skills.
  • Must have the ability to make decisions relating to daily duties.
  • Basic mathematical skills, in order to calculate payroll, and have the ability to operate various office equipment, such as, but not limited to, fax machine, copy machine, etc.


  • Requires two or more years of previous payroll experience.
  • Data entry and personal computer experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, FPC a plus.
