  • Overview

    The End User Computing Engineer’s role is to lead the selection and efficient and effective management of the GM Financials end user computing platforms including personal computers, mobile devices (e.g., smartphones, tablets) and the associated management processes and tools. This role includes developing and maintaining a single consistent enterprise OS image and troubleshooting and resolving any issues on any deployed end user computing platforms. This role has responsibility for working with business clients to elicit and document requirements used to select new and modify/improve existing end user computing platforms.

    Responsibilities

    JOB DUTIES:

    • Support and maintain the global end user computing platforms insuring high performance and reliability
    • Support the End User Computing operational teams in fulfilling service requests and resolving incidents in a timely manner to assure business clients are satisfied.
    • Perform in-depth root cause analysis of end user computing problems and define actions for timely resolution and corrective actions. Work with key vendors as necessary to assist with root cause analysis and problem resolution.
    • Plan, architect, design, document and implement end user computing platforms, operating system, enterprise software, and peripheral upgrades to improve services provided to business clients. Conduct proof of concepts as appropriate to confirm and refine designs.
    • Proactively identifies opportunities for improvements to existing processes and for automation of time consuming tasks.
    • Plan, prioritize, and provide vision and schedules for assigned software and / or hardware changes.
    • Perform or assist with routine end user computing administration tasks, as necessary, to assure the reliable operation of the global end user computing platforms, including routine operations system and software updates.
    • Participate in company provided training and perform independent training as appropriate.
    • Resolve incident management tickets as they arise and ensure timely resolution.  
    • Conduct audit compliance assessments and initiate corrective action.  
    • Provide technical support for projects as directed
    • Perform critical system changes after business hours.
    • Adhere to all company authored policy, procedure and standards documents.
    • Author policy, procedure and standards documents based on industry best practices and personal research and experience.
    • Work closely with End User Computing technology and service peers and management emphasizing collaboration and joint effort to ensure that the needs and expectations of organizational stake holders, business partners, external customers, and third party organizations are met and/or exceeded.
    • Transfer knowledge via documentation and training to End User Computing operations teams.
    • Participate in an on-call support rotation for providing after-hours support.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Reports to: End User Computing Engineering Manager

    Qualifications

    Knowledge

    • General knowledge of TCPIP
    • Local Area and Wide Area networking concepts and principles.  
    • General knowledge of Windows Server and Desktop operating systems.
    • General knowledge of server and desktop hardware.
    • General knowledge of desktop and server virtualization technologies.
    • General knowledge of storage systems and storage area networks.
    • General knowledge of at least one windows application server. Including but not limited to: Exchange, SharePoint, SQL server, Active Directory.
    • General knowledge of internally developed application servers.
    • General knowledge of cross platform integration.

    Experience

    • Minimum 3 years of experience in information technology.
    • Minimum 3 years of experience with Windows server and/or desktop operating systems.
    • Minimum 3 years of experience with Ethernet LANs.
    • Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
    • Advanced job related certifications preferred but not required.

     

    WORK CONDITION:

    Normal office environment; may be stressful at times. There may be a requirement to occasionally work a flexible schedule with the possibility of working long hours.
