The Physical Security Manager is responsible for safeguarding GM Financial assets (property, information, and personnel) by effectively managing all aspects of GMF Physical Security Operations. This position manages the contracted guard force operations; incident / emergency response; physical security of GMF buildings, grounds, and protected areas; visitor management; and acts as a liaison to all vendors and departments on security measures, procedures, incidents, maintenance and business needs.


The position is responsible for leading security staff and contract personnel in the performance of their duties in accordance with departmental requirements, policies and procedures.



  • Manage, oversee, and implement security procedures for contract security officers and the Physical Security Operations Manager
  • Supervise, evaluate and manage the company's contract security program to ensure a safe and secure environment for GM Financial team members, business associates and visitors. This includes conducting hiring interviews, assessing adherence to training programs, monitoring performance and ensuring adherence to contracted service level agreements or accepted standard practice.
  • Define best practices and determine the appropriateness of increased security controls via cost/benefit analysis.  
  • Function as a direct point of contact between GM Financial and external vendors providing security, equipment and maintenance services to GM Financial.
  • Analyze existing security measures and make recommendations for improvements when needed. Manage the Physical Security incident response procedures and provide written reports summarizing incidents and safety violations to appropriate parties.
  • Effectively communicate GM Financial Physical Security objectives to ensure that management and staff are well informed.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of emergency preparedness activities for GM Financial facilities.
  • Assist the AVP Security Operations and Investigations with development of annual physical security budget
  • Deliver professional reporting for incidents of sensitive and high risk situations.
  • Utilize and manage both internal and, where authorized, external resources in the performance of investigations as required.
  • Liaise with HR, business clients, and other control functions in the delivery, communication and resolution of Physical Security incidents
  • Deliver professionally written incident / investigation reports incorporating all evidence required
  • Provide effective leadership, strategy, and communication to the Physical Security team
  • Manage the coordination of subordinate employee recruitment, selection and training
  • Manage performance assessment, salary, and recognition/disciplinary actions
  • Provide direction of the teams’ daily operations and work assignment, and review work for quality and efficiency
  • Effectively mentor, motivate, encourage and guide staff to foster career development and high performance
  • Ensure resources are appropriately and efficiently allocated to key areas of work and that priorities are adequately addressed in a timely manner
  • Provide after-hours emergency support and availability for emergencies occurring at all GMF sites
  • Ensure contract security expense is managed effectively
  • Record pertinent operational data, prepare monthly KPI reporting with analysis and recommendations for the Physical Security contract officers



Perform other duties and/or conduct special projects as requested.



Reports to: AVP Security Operations and Investigations  

Direct Reports: Physical Security Operations Manager



  • Working knowledge of security operations, policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of local ordinances and prevailing laws as well as GM Financial policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of vendor account management
  • Working knowledge of conducting and developing pertinent operational data including KPI (Key Performance Indicator) reporting with analysis and recommendations


  • Demonstrated effective crisis management skills.
  • Leadership ability to effectively monitor and develop team.
  • Good oral written communication skills, with the ability to interact with staff at all levels.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of employees, contractors, visitors and government representatives.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to manage the physical security function with minimal supervision.      


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of corporate security experience.
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience in corporate security required.        


Normal office environment with up to 35 % travel.
