Overview

The Global Vulnerability Remediation Engineer III, under general direction of the Global Infrastructure Governance Solutions Manager, will assist in the day-to-day tasks critical to the team’s success including defining and assessing the organization's patching and vulnerability remediation strategy, sustaining and improving processes intended to enforce “desired state” configurations for infrastructure, managing and coordinating release schedules, creating and testing packages prior to release, and deploying approved packages in accordance with all architecture and configuration, change, and release management policies and procedures. This person must possess strong analytics, planning and coordination skills. An energetic, solution minded personality with drive, attention to details and excellent communication skills will be needed for success in this position.

Responsibilities

JOB DUTIES

  • Uses a broad and deep understanding of technical concepts to troubleshoot and resolve security vulnerabilities and remediation related issues as required, and analyze, propose and implement changes aimed at continuous system-wide improvements.
  • Plans, prioritizes, and provides vision and schedules for assigned software deployments and enforcement of desired system configurations
  • Effectively communicates current status of remediation projects, problems, and issues to the department management team
  • Proactively identifies opportunities for improvements to existing processes and for automation of time consuming tasks.
  • Develop and maintain custom software tools/scripts to automate repetitive tasks, generate operational reports and improve self-service capabilities for desktop, server and network engineers.
  • Draft user communication and issue email notifications to key stakeholders and the user community regarding environment changes, patches, and outages, both planned and unplanned.
  • Delegates routine and standard tasks to appropriate team members and also serve as high level escalation contact
  • Must have high attention to detail, be well organized and be a self-starter.
  • Must be able to work with limited to moderate direct supervision.
  • Define and evangelize enterprise policies, standards and position statements for new and existing GMF technologies.
  • The candidate must be willing to accommodate weekend, shift or on-call schedules when necessary.
  • Assist other engineers with performance analysis, process improvement and task automation.

Reports to: Global Infrastructure Governance Solutions Manager

Qualifications

Knowledge

  • Advanced knowledge of Server and PC operating systems
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows Server, Linux and/or Desktop operating systems
  • Knowledge and understanding of industry trends and new technologies and ability to apply this to day-to-day work activities
  • Troubleshooting knowledge, utilizing packet sniffers, Fiddler, log parsers, and other utilities relative to problem diagnosis and remediation.
  • Knowledge of enterprise platforms and operating systems as well as knowledge of key business functions and processes.

 

Skills

  • Experience working in 200+ server environment preferred.
  • Experience designing, implementing and troubleshooting automated solutions in a complex environment using Puppet, SCCM and other automation/configuration management platforms
  • VMware virtualization concepts, and the SAN technologies that support it.
  • Scripting languages, particularly PowerShell and/or Python; a general understanding of cmdlets like get-member, and familiarity with basic scripting concepts.
  • A strong willingness to take initiative; come up with creative solutions, become a ‘subject matter expert’ in multiple support areas, desire to become a self-starter.

 

Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent work experience in IT is preferred.
  • Experience in dealing with multiple business units and diverse employee population.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in information technology.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience managing servers, desktops and/or related infrastructure.

 

WORK CONDITIONS

  • Normal office environment; may be stressful at times. There may be a requirement to occasionally work a flexible schedule with the possibility of working long hours.
