Overview

The Global Monitoring Technology Engineer Lead, under the general direction from the Manager, will assist in the day-to-day tasks critical to the team’s success and provides guidance and support for the Global Monitoring Engineers.  The Lead Engineer will play a key role in new projects, design, and implementation of monitoring tools and technologies consistent with company and team policies and procedures.  The Lead Engineer will ensure group procedures are followed and documentation is up to date and correct.  Timely completing company training, Engineers will become thoroughly familiar with all compliance, regulatory and security requirements, adhering to all corporate policies and standards.

Responsibilities

JOB DUTIES

  • Serves as Global Monitoring Technology Lead Engineer for the multi-disciplinary project teams they are a member of.
  • Collaborates with external and internal customers to analyze information needs and functional requirements and deliver the artifacts as needed.
  • Must have high attention to detail, be well organized and be a self-starter.
  • Ensures the current monitoring environment is operational and functioning as intended including patching and break fixes.
  • Develops and applies advanced methods, theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of complex and difficult monitoring design requirements.
  • Evaluates vendor capabilities to provide solutions for the most complex requirements Recommends vendor tools and tactics and presents to management as appropriate.
  • Provides leadership and work guidance to less experienced personnel.
  • Review, contribute and comment on, complex planning initiatives.
  • Produce quality documentation to support the planning and implementation efforts of key projects.
  • Reviews and consultants on junior engineers work for quality and adherence to company and team standards.
  • Conducts investigations of highly complex monitoring solutions. Develops, recommends, and implements solution(s) ensuring effective and efficient monitoring and alerting.

Reports to Global Monitoring Technology Manager

Qualifications

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge and understanding of industry trends and new technologies and ability to apply this to day-to-day work activities
  • Knowledge of enterprise platforms and operating systems as well as knowledge of key business functions and processes
  • Knowledge of SQL, ITIL, SNMP, SSH, Various OS environments (Windows, Unix, etc.)

 

 Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability at advanced troubleshooting and problem solving issues and able to pay close attention to details.
  • Proven ability to assess impacts and implications of proposed system changes that effect the processes and elements related to the enterprise monitoring environment.
  • Programming (scripting) ability in at least one scripting language (Powershell, Perl, VB Script, Unix shell, etc).
  • Working knowledge of Splunk and its various uses
  • Understands Monitoring methodologies related to SAN/NAS based data storage architectures.

 Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in IT is preferred.
  • Experience in dealing with multiple business units and diverse employee population.
  • Should possess a broad background in Enterprise Monitoring (7+ years experience) utilizing various mainstream toolsets (HP Site Scope, HP NNMi, MS SCOM, SolarWinds Orion (Suite), Splunk, Netflow Monitoring Tools and various Transaction based tools like ExtraHop and HP BPM/APM.
  • Understanding of and ability to apply ITIL/ITSM fundamentals.
  • Breadth of knowledge in various areas including data center, middleware, database, server, infrastructure.
  • Ability to translate and communicate technical matters to the business as needed.

 WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Normal office environment; may be stressful at times due to deadlines, outages, dealing with team members, vendors, and other departments.
  • There may be a requirement to occasionally work a flexible schedule with the possibility of working long hours as work hours may fluctuate due to major projects or events that take place. Extended work hours day, night or weekend and after-hour may be expected and required.
